Learn How To Save Water By Doubling Or Tripling The Use Of Water Before Disposal
Essentially recycle your water once or twice before disposal. Here are some tips.
- Use water from rinsing rice and vegetable for watering plant. Rice is a great fertilizer too.
- Use two basins for washing dishes. The first water is for rinsing before washing with detergent and first rinse thereafter. Rinsing before soaping, get rid of the solid waste. Rinse the dishes outside of the basin to avoid getting the water dirty too quickly. The first rinse after soaping will remove most of the detergent. Wash in the second basin to remove the rest of the detergent. Rinse off the tap for a squeaky clean dish. Remove to collect the water from the final rinse in the first or second basin. Using this method, a typical dish washing will use around 6 litres of water. Definitely a lot less than washing under a running tap.
- Collect water from floor moping, laundry, face washing etc for flushing the toilet. Use the toilet flush occasionally to prevent mosquito breeding. Each flush is around 4 litres of water. Recycling the water from face washing each morning will save 120 litres each month. Save 1460 litres a year.
Be Prudent
- Take shower instead of bath. Turn off the tap while soaping.
- Use the washing machine only when there is a full load.
- Do not use hose for washing car. A bucket and sponge is as effective and uses much less water.
- Install water-efficient taps and showerheads to reduce water usage.
- Check your taps and pipes for leak regularly.
- Do not use water to defrost frozen food. Plan ahead, place the food in the refrigerator to thaw overnight.
-
Use a tumbler for brushing teeth instead of a running tap.
